Live music at a young age can be transformative for a person’s life – a unique experience with their friends, fostering social connectivity, developing their own skills around healthy behaviour, and a chance for freedom and experimentation in a controlled environment with established support.
Yet after the last two years of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Australian music sector is facing increasing challenges in staging live events for young people, as promotors face an ever-changing legislative landscape, rising costs associated with having minors present, as well as changing audience behaviours. How the music sector rebounds and enters a sustainable new era is still a process we are navigating through, but it can be hard to determine a forecast for the future.
Facilitated by Kate Duncan (The Push), this conversation will bring together festival promoters, academics and representatives from government and police to unpack these challenges and explore opportunities to foster our future live music audiences.
