Musicians who view music as their main career are more likely to be clinically depressed than musicians who do not. Solo performers and lead vocalists appear to experience the brunt of reported mental health issues and as an industry, while there are more initiatives being developed to help artists overcome such issues, understanding where they stem from is key.
How musicians subjectively define and understand the idea of ‘success’ appears to be crucial in understanding their mental health, certainly how linked the two can be.
