People who work in music statistically experience a disproportionately high instance of mental illness when compared to the general population. To help improve these statistics, Support Act has been – through targeted prevention education and training initiatives – working to boost mental health outcomes for Australian musicians, managers, crews and music workers.

Still, there is a long way to go before they achieve their goal of nurturing a music industry where good mental health and wellbeing are at the centre of everything they do. With this in mind, they have consulted with music industry representatives and regulatory authorities to develop a set of standards that aim to help the industry as a whole.

The ‘Minimum Standards for a Mentally Healthy Music Industry’ protocol has been drafted to assist guiding music industry, artists and workers around expectations of behaviour, working environment and responsibilities in workspaces.

This panel explores these new standards, as well as Support Act’s vision for its implementation.
