With a 25-ish-year career starting with music journalism and winding its way through music retail, radio, management, marketing and now media stewardship, Stephen’s career has centered on telling the stories of Australian music and fighting for the profile of Australian culture.
Stephen’s early career roles included BIGSOUND programmer, Canadian Airlines inflight radio producer, local band publicist / plugger and Play MPE launch director before launching SGC Media in 2010. The marketing and PR arm of SGC Media has steered many successes including a dozen top ten albums, fifteen ARIA nominations and working with projects including BIGSOUND, The National Indigenous Music Awards, Australian Music Prize, Fire Fight Australia, Sheppard, Lauv, Gurrumul, John Butler Trio, Dua Lipa, The Jacksons, Snoop Dogg, 50 Cent and more.
SGC Media also operates Radio Monitor in Australia, delivering valuable data to labels and industry.
In 2020 SGC Media purchased electronic/hip hop blog Purple Sneakers and founded Countrytown, Australia’s only country music focused online news outlet. In 2021 SGC Media purchased TheMusic.com.au, Australia’s most respected music website, creating a music-specific publishing house, reaching over 400,000 Australians every month, and growing.
